Top 10 Board & Card Games Your Kids Will Love

Any cool Dad out there can still sit down and play a board game or a card game with their family. Here is a list of 10 awesome board/card games that you might want to consider for this holiday season. There are a ton more on here that I didn’t list today but rest assured, I haven’t forgotten them. These are just 10 great games, spanning all ages that I think are fun to open as gifts and play right away.

If your really want to know “What Would Dad do?” I’d sit down and play some games with my family this year…and I plan to do it!

10) Battleship:
You’re the commander of your fleet, so prepare your strategy and lead your troops to victory. Call out your coordinates and mark your hits and misses. “D-6.” “It’s a hit.” Try to destroy your opponent’s fleet before he/she “sinks you’re battle ship”.

There are some newer versions as well in G.I:Joe and Star Wars form:

9) Twister: It’s over forty years old and still going strong! Such a simple concept, with so much potential for hilarity and accidental fun. The game includes a plastic mat with red, blue, yellow, and green spots; a spinner; and instructions (as if you didn’t know what to do). (“Left foot, red,” “Right hand, blue”). All players, at the same time, follow the directions, placing the appropriate body part on a circle. Players become increasingly entangled, until someone or in many cases, everyone, finally topples, and is eliminated. The last person standing wins.

8) Operation:
The Operation game features Sam the patient, lying atop a red plastic “operating table”. He has 12 body cavities exposed to the world. Players take on the role of surgeon and must perform highly skilled procedures with a pair of tweezers. You will remove everything from a broken heart or butterflies in the stomach. BUT–This kind of surgery requires a steady hand as you must remove the body part without touching the metal lining of the cavity–or ZAP! Touch the metal edge, and you’ll set off the buzzer and make Sam’s chubby red nose light up.

Sponge Bob even has his own Operation game:

And so does the Hulk:

7) Candyland:
This is the ULTIMATE classic “child’s first game”, and your feisty preschoolers will love it. Children draw colored cards, and move their plastic gingerbread playing tokens to the next square of the same color. Passing all sorts of fun things like the peppermint forest and the yummy ice cream sea on the way, they must reach the candy castle. The first one to reach the castle wins!

6) Qwirkle:
Qwirkle is a simple as matching colors and shapes, BUT it also requires some slick tactical maneuvers and a well-planned strategy to win the game. This fun game consists of 108 wooden blocks with six different shapes in six colors. In using the wooden blocks, the players must attempt to score the most points by building lines that share a common attribute–which is either a shape or color.

5) Pop O-Matic Trouble:
Trouble is son fun! It’s the classic race-and-chase game with the PopoMatic die-rolling bubble! Pop the bubble and hop your pegs around the track and when you land on an opponent’s peg you bump them back home. BUT don’t you get bumped back– or you’re in BIG TROUBLE! Get all 4 of your pegs to the finish line first, and you win!

4) Uno:
Uno is fun and easy, you simply play cards from your hand by either matching color, number, or word on the top card of the discard pile. When you have one card left, yell Uno!–and then onto victory you will roll!

Uno even has a pre-school game:

3) Wac-a-mole:
With wac-a-mole, you can bring the classic carnival game right into your house. The real cruelty of this game is tempered by how much fun the moles appear to be having while receiving repeated blows to their plastic heads with big plastic mallets.

2) Clue:
This classic mystery whodunnit is addictive and loads of fun for you and your entire family! You’ll have a blast figuring out who has murdered the victim from the entire cast of characters such as Miss Scarlet and Colonel Mustard, and with which murder weapon–the lead pipe or the candlestick. Clue can be played over and over again without becoming boring and is entertaining for the adults too.

Clue

There are now tons of Different Versions of Clue games and interactive ones as well. See below for more.

1) Monopoly:
Monopoly is my all-time favorite game. It’s still the most popular and most widely played board game in the world! Roll the dice, and buy property or pay the rent! Go to jail or collect some funds. Monopoly rocks!

Below are more games related to the ones above. Hopefully this helps your holiday shopping!
