My name is Hal Hefner. I’m an Artist and a Dad.

I guess I’m what you call a “modern day” dad. I’m not like the dads of the fifties and sixties who never changed a diaper or who never cooked a meal. I’m a hands on kind of guy. I get poop in my fingernails, I cook sloppily and enjoy spending quality time with my kids drawing, reading, watching cartoons, laughing and wiping noses. I try and feed their minds with great stuff like the Muppets, Super Heroes, Star Wars and Dr. Seuss so their imagination can take off as early as possible. I want to share with them all of the cool stuff that made me who I am today and all that the modern world can give as well.

I’ve lived many lives professionally: as a graphic designer, artist, writer, marketing specialist and a “sales guy” at a staffing agency. In February of 2009 I was surprisingly shown the door from my “day job” in a very unflattering manner and it skyrocketed me into a wonderful world of creativity. Now working as a freelance artist, writer and comic art teacher I have vowed to create entertainment for children and adults that will make people feel something.

I started What Would Dad Do (WWDD) in October 2009 so I could share all of the ideas and artistic things I do or aspire to do with my children. I hope this blog inspires Dads and Moms alike. In reality, I’m just a dude–who lives in Southern California with his beautiful wife and my two amazing daughters.

WHAT MAKES ME AN EXPERT ON PARENTING?
Is there REALLY such a thing as an expert on Parenting? This website is simply about a dad’s point of view in a whacked out world. I tell it like I see it. I base my ideas, answers and opinions simply on my experiences and the experiences I’ve observed others make–combined with my knowledge of things like art, movies, tv, books, comics and more! I’m just a big kid who enjoys being a dad and who will never grow old in my mind or my soul. You may agree with me and you may not but welcome to WWDD regardless.
